Fucking Meteorologists

I guess I am one of the few people who were disappointed this weekend. It is the first long weekend of the warm season, some call it summer but I don’t want to jinx things. So, this, the first long weekend of the summer is when all of the camp grounds are filled and people start their summer activities. Louise and I used to go camping on this weekend, but I’d say that 70% to 80% of the time the weather was cold and wet. Often Mother Nature would toss snow into the mix just because she is a bitch.

According to the weather forecasters, this weekend was to fall into the 70% to 80% category. The rain was to start on Friday night and not let up until Tuesday, pretty much a steady rainfall. The farmers actually like to have a wet spring so that there is a goodly amount of ground water for their crops that they grow and we eat. Since I don’t camp any more, I have no problem with the farmers having their way for the long weekend. Well, just so long as the rain stops and we get sunny and warm weather for the rest of the summer.

The rain didn’t start on Friday night or during the day on Saturday. I thought, that’s nice, the die hard campers get a chance to have at least one dry day to enjoy the fire and walking in nature. Everyone gets at least some of what they want. The forecasters were amazed that the rain didn’t start, but blamed a counter clockwise low that was being affected by a clockwise high. The rain was to have started in earnest overnight on Saturday and morph into thundershowers with lightning all day and well into Monday and Tuesday. I took advantage of the dry Saturday to do a little gardening and some wood working in the garage.

I was prepared to spend Sunday doing some spring cleaning and watching a little TV. Guess what? No rain on Sunday either. Well, there were a few showers, but the sidewalks under the trees didn’t even get wet. That night on the weather report, they were talking about how loud the thunder was and what a downpour with torrential rain and hail in places. Are they fucking kidding? Where are they living? They talked of at least having one good day on the weekend, but we should expect the same weather tomorrow as we had today. The same weather they had, or the same weather I had?

I have no idea what to plan for the holiday Monday. Inside…outside…wet…dry…water the lawn or batten down the hatches. No need to keep you in suspense, the whole day was sunny with some cloud, but on the whole it was beautiful, kind of made me wish I were camping. It must have had something to do with a clockwise high. I’m sure tonight the weather ho’s will babble about high water and flooded basements, but the rain should stop by Tuesday. Really?

Like I said, I am one of the few people disappointed that we had nice weather this weekend, I had a nice indoor weekend planned and I have all sorts of outdoors things planned for the coming week. I guess I will be spending the coming week filling sandbags and fighting back the rising tide.

Fucking meteorologists!
